Year-End Review

Blog Post By: Jon Conklin, Director of Operations & Head Golf Professional

Hard to believe we have reached the end of another golf season. Seems like just yesterday we were prepping carts and beginning course cleanup to start another fun-filled season at Bucks Run. With that being said, I wanted to give a quick summary of our great 2018 season.

Think back to spring earlier this year. While we were all excited to open, Mother Nature had different thoughts. February and most of March were great weather-wise, which had us thinking of an early opening. Then winter hit us again in late March through early April. We were able to open our doors the second week of April, but unfortunately had to close the doors again for another week.

Once the weather finally cooperated, we were firing on all cylinders!  We had the pleasure of hosting many outstanding outings, as well as a few new events for junior golf. The Mt. Pleasant High School Boy’s Golf Team hosted their first Invitational at both Bucks Run and Pohlcat, in May, while we also hosted a Callaway/Meijer Tour event in June.

Throughout the season, there were 16 hole-in-ones recorded. While this is an exciting feat for any golfer, and we are overjoyed for everyone, we did have a unique guest. Gary Bryant, of Midland, MI, recorded 3 aces in just over 30 days -- from September 3rd till October 14th.  Gary has been a member here since 2009, and never recorded a hole-in-one for the 30 prior years of playing this great game. You can read more about the amazing feat here. Congratulations, Gary!

Pace of play has also improved over the years, and this year was no different.  We ended our third year with the GPS on our golf carts, which have pace of play functionality.  With all the studies out there about why more people don’t play golf or play MORE golf, the number one reason is due to time. We take this very seriously and are pleased with our commitment to enjoyable rounds of golf.

Our Play and Stay Program continues to grow, with more people visiting our city and surrounding golf courses. This is the time of year to essentially have your pick of tee times and accommodations for next season, and we are already sending golf package proposals off to groups, as well as booking 2019 trips.  If you know you'd like to book a Play & Stay Package for next year, we highly recommend to start looking now.

Lastly, even though the course is closed, that does not mean Bucks Run is entirely. We have a fantastic restaurant that is open Friday and Saturday evenings, beginning at 5PM, along with space for private events/meetings.  If you have not looked into your holiday plans, we highly recommend taking a look at our Private VIP Room and Banquet Room. We also offer a variety of Thanksgiving, Holiday, and New Year's Buffets. But, don’t hesitate because reservations fill fast!  Our Event Coordinator, Amy Saunders, is here to help, and she can be reached by calling 989-773-6830.

Again, thank you for a great year, and we look forward to hosting your group in 2019!
