6 Tips for Choosing a Wedding Venue
Blog Post By: Amy Saunders, Event Coordinator

Selecting the perfect venue for your wedding can be a challenge. Because of that, I want to discuss some factors which I feel are important when considering and deciding upon your wedding venue.

1. Ceremony and/or Reception - It has become quite popular to have your ceremony and reception at the same location. Part of the reason is convenience, part of the reason could be wanting a unique location other than a traditional church setting. It is easier for the Bride and Groom to have one location where they can enjoy their entire day, plus their guests do not have to travel from one location to another. Therefore, I suggest you determine whether or not you want your ceremony and reception in one location or independent of each other. Once you decide that, finding the venue for your ceremony and/or reception becomes easier because not all venues can accommodate a ceremony and reception.

Did you know? Bucks Run Golf Club offers a picturesque ceremony site, a banquet room that can accommodate up to 300 guests, and a private VIP Room which can be used for "day-of" preparations.

2. Location - Always consider the location of the venue. Is it convenient for you and your guests? Is it located in a very busy area? If not, is it located near a recognizable, well-traveled road? If you are having your ceremony at a different location, is it easy to navigate from the ceremony site to the reception?

3. Size - Does the venue offer adequate space for your reception? You should always select a venue that can seat more guests than you are assuming will attend. For one, during the planning process you may think you are only inviting 100 guests, but as you start really looking at your guest list, they seem to grow. Secondly, we all know that not everyone invited attends the ceremony, but how many will attend your reception? Make sure the venue you select has the flexibility to accommodate more guests should the number of guests you are intending to invite grows.

4. Deposits and Payments - Make sure you are fully-aware of the venue's policies in regards to deposits and payments. Most venues limit the time wherein your deposit is refundable should you find another venue.

5. Food & Beverage Policies - Selecting a venue can be easier if you know what their policies are in regards to food and beverage. Does the venue allow outside food and beverages? If so, determine how you envision your reception. Is your family making your meal, do you have a favorite caterer that you really want to handle the preparations? If not, do they offer tastings wherein you can try some of their selections? Tastings are truly the best way to decide on what you want to serve at your reception. It gives you the opportunity to try something new and know what to expect the day of your reception. Make sure to ask if the venue offers tastings and if so, I encourage you to take advantage of that option.

6. Vendors - Venues sometimes have limitations on vendors or have a list of vendors that they prefer to work with. Always ask what the venues policies are in this regard.

Did you know? Bucks Run Golf Club has a list of preferred vendors that have demonstrated integrity and professionalism when involved with weddings at our location. Some of the vendors on our list even offer special rates or discounts. However, we do allow our Brides and Grooms the freedom to work with whomever they prefer -- after all, it is your day!
