Finding the Right Golf Equipment

Blog Post By: Jon Conklin, Head PGA Professional & Director of Operations

As a Golf Professional, I still get giddy when new clubs are released for the upcoming season.  At times, companies may release their new equipment in the fall for the snow birds, in the lower part of the U.S. However, it is typically right after the PGA Merchandise Show, at the end of January, that we see most new equipment hit the market. Although the new equipment is readily available, there are many times when we, as consumers, do not want to purchase the clubs right away because we cannot test the clubs to see the ball fly outside (for those that experience winter).

Today, there are so many great options out there, no matter what your needs are as a player. Each company now produces a club for your game, which opens up endless possibilities. For example, Nike produces the Vapor Fly, Vapor Fly Pro and Vapor Flex in drivers.  Each is for a different type of golfer and their varying needs in terms of spin, launch angle, forgiveness and workability.

One area that still amazes me is how wedges have changed so much in the past 5 years.  Prior to 5 years ago, we would find a wedge that we enjoyed (always looking for more spin), and simply match-up the bounce we wanted for our swing and course conditions.  Now, all companies have different grinds, along with bounces to assist even further. For example, Titleist now produces wedges with a progressive center of gravity to have more precise distance and trajectory control. I would highly recommend adding a newer wedge to your golf bag if you haven't done so already.

If you are ready to start adding new equipment to your bag, we can take care of your needs at our free Demo Day on Saturday, May 14th from 10:00AM-2:00PM. On this day, we will have the latest in golf equipment onsite and their corresponding company representatives, along with PGA Professionals to assist in your fitting process. This is a great day to support local business, while receiving top-notch customer service that the "big box stores" cannot provide. Reservations are not required; simply stop out to the course at your convenience. We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 14th from 10:00AM-2:00PM.
